Description
Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking has been guiding small groups through the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park since 1996, building a thirty-year reputation for exceptional naturalist guiding, genuine personal attention, and a deep commitment to the ecosystems they paddle through. Founded by two guides on Fox Island, the company now operates out of the Seward Small Boat Harbor at 1304 West 4th Avenue, offering a range of guided kayak experiences that span from beginner-friendly half-day paddles in the protected harbor to multi-day wilderness journeys deep into the fjords.
The core of the Sunny Cove lineup is guided day kayaking in Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park. Small-group tours — intentionally kept small to minimize environmental impact and maximize guide-to-guest interaction — paddle through coastal waters rich with sea otters, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, and humpback whales. Tidewater glaciers loom at the heads of the fjords, and the combination of marine wildlife, glacial ice, and vertical granite walls creates a sensory experience that no bus tour can replicate. Guides provide all equipment including fully enclosed sea kayaks, dry suits or paddling gear appropriate to conditions, and safety training before departure.
Beyond standard day tours, Sunny Cove offers kayak and water taxi combinations that allow guests to reach more remote corners of the park, and multi-day guided camping expeditions for paddlers who want to spend nights in the wilderness. The company is certified by Adventure Green Alaska, reflecting its commitment to sustainable tourism practices and Leave No Trace principles.
Tours depart from the Seward Small Boat Harbor daily from 7 AM to 6 PM. Advance booking is strongly recommended for summer months. Call or visit the website to review the full tour menu and check seasonal availability.
