Description
Frosted Axe Throwing is Anchorage's dedicated axe throwing venue, occupying a 3,000-square-foot facility on West Fireweed Lane near the Midtown corridor. With 10 full-length throwing lanes, a bar stocked with Alaska craft beers, wines, and ciders, and an arsenal that goes well beyond the standard hatchet, it has become one of the city's most recommended indoor entertainment options for visitors and locals looking for something genuinely different to do.
The facility's signature feature is its digital interactive projection targets — a system that overlays games, animated challenges, and real-time scoring onto the traditional wooden target face. Guests can compete in target games, track progressive scores, and run head-to-head competitions rather than simply throwing for a static bullseye. The throwable lineup extends to more than 20 implements: standard throwing axes, ninja stars, shovels, and a rotating selection of novelty items that give regulars something new to try on each visit. Sessions are available in one- and two-hour formats, with up to four people per lane.
Private events are central to the operation. Birthday parties, corporate team-building sessions, and full venue rentals are available through advance booking, and the 10-lane layout can accommodate groups that want their own dedicated space. Gift cards are purchasable at the venue. The minimum age for participation is 8 years old, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
Walk-in sessions are available Wednesday through Sunday. The venue is open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 10 PM, Friday from 4 to 11 PM, Saturday from 2 to 11 PM, and Sunday from noon to 8 PM. Monday and Tuesday are reserved exclusively for private events. Frosted Axe Throwing is located at 409 West Fireweed Lane; advance booking is available at frostedaxethrowing.com.
Axe throwing requires no special fitness level or prior experience — just a willingness to try something unfamiliar. The digital projection format makes even a first session feel more like gameplay than instruction, and the atmosphere is reliably social regardless of group size. It is consistently cited as one of the best value-for-experience activities available in Anchorage on a weeknight or weekend afternoon.
