Description
The Two Lakes Trail offers one of Seward's most accessible and rewarding nature walks, looping through the forest around a pair of small glacial lakes just minutes from the heart of downtown. Managed by the City of Seward, this short loop trail threads through spruce and alder trees with the dramatic backdrop of the Kenai Mountains rising overhead and the blue waters of Resurrection Bay visible through the trees — making it one of the most scenically layered easy hikes on the Kenai Peninsula.
The two glacial lakes at the center of the trail shimmer in varying shades of green and blue depending on the light and season, fed by snowmelt and surrounded by the rich understory vegetation that thrives in Seward's maritime climate. The gentle grade and compact distance make this walk accessible to young children, older visitors, and anyone who wants to stretch their legs after exploring Seward's Small Boat Harbor or the Alaska SeaLife Center without committing to a longer backcountry outing.
Wildlife sightings along the trail commonly include Steller's jays, varied thrushes, and the occasional black bear foraging in the adjacent vegetation — though human traffic typically keeps wildlife encounters to a visual glimpse from a distance. The trail is open year-round, with the heaviest use during Seward's summer visitor season from Memorial Day through Labor Day. No fees or permits are required to access this welcoming city trail.
