Description
Russian Jack Springs Golf Course is Anchorage's most central public golf option — a 9-hole municipal course tucked inside Russian Jack Springs Park, a 300-acre greenspace straddling the DeBarr Road corridor on the city's east side. Managed by the Municipality of Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department, the course offers accessible, affordable play for beginners and recreational golfers who want an unhurried round without the formality of a private club.
The course plays through mature spruce forest characteristic of Anchorage's east-side parks, with fairways threading between trees and a modest layout that rewards accuracy over distance. At nine holes, a round moves quickly — typically two hours or less — making it an ideal choice for golfers working around Alaska's unpredictable weather windows or fitting in a morning round before other activities. The course is flat to gently rolling, presenting minimal elevation challenge but consistent natural hazards in the form of trees and the occasional soft fairway during wet summers.
Greens fees are municipally priced, keeping the course among the most affordable in the Anchorage bowl. Carts are available for rental. The small clubhouse at the DeBarr Road entrance handles tee time bookings and offers basic pro shop amenities. No formal dress code is enforced, and the low-key atmosphere makes Russian Jack Springs a welcoming entry point for newer golfers.
The course is set within a park that also contains the Mann Leiser Memorial Greenhouses, picnic areas, and walking trails, making it easy to combine golf with other recreational activities. Moose sightings on and around the fairways are common throughout the season — standard Anchorage golf behavior applies: give moose a wide berth and wait for them to clear the course.
Season typically runs late May through early October, subject to Anchorage's weather. The course is located at 6701 DeBarr Road, roughly 4 miles east of downtown Anchorage, with ample free parking at the trailhead lot adjacent to the first tee. Reservations can be made by phone at (907) 343-6917 or through the Municipality of Anchorage Parks website.
