Powder Hound Ski & Bike Shop is Girdwood's go-to outfitter for mountain adventures on snow and dirt. Tucked at 210 Arlberg Avenue near the base of Alyeska Resort, the shop sits in a ski-in, ski-out position that makes grabbing gear before a run — or dropping it off after — completely seamless. Established in 2012 and operating year-round, Powder Hound has grown into the hub of the Girdwood outdoor community.

In winter, the shop covers every rental category: ski and snowboard packages, cross-country ski setups, and season leases for locals who call Alyeska's legendary terrain home. Demo skis let guests try before they buy, and ski tuning and waxing services keep boards performing at their best through Alyeska's notoriously wet Southcentral Alaska snow. The staff bring more than 20 years of combined boot-fitting experience, offering custom appointments that dial in fit for skiers of every level.

When summer arrives, Powder Hound pivots to two wheels without missing a beat. The rental fleet spans electric bikes, full-suspension trail rigs, downhill bikes, and fat bikes, covering everything from the Girdwood valley's cross-country singletrack to the Alyeska bike park's lift-served lines. The Bird to Gird trail, one of Southcentral Alaska's most celebrated multi-use paths, is practically out the front door. Bike tuning and repair keep rental fleets and personal bikes trail-ready all season.

The retail floor stocks over 70 brands of outerwear, skis, snowboards, bindings, boots, bikes, and accessories, making it a legitimate specialty shop rather than a resort grab-and-go operation. Guests staying at Powder Inn — the lodge located directly above the shop — can rent gear, hit the mountain, and return equipment without moving their car.
