Description
Centennial Campground is Anchorage's closest municipal campground, offering 84 sites for RV campers and tent campers just minutes from downtown. Managed by the Municipality of Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department, the campground sits near the Glenn Highway on the east side of the city, providing a convenient base for exploring Alaska's largest city and its surrounding natural attractions.
The campground accommodates a range of setups: 21 RV sites with 20/30/50-amp electrical hookups, 20 RV sites without electricity, tent camping pads, 2 group sites, and 6 pull-through sites for larger rigs up to 42 feet in length. Full amenities include modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, potable water fill stations, fire rings, and picnic tables at every site. A playground is available for families, and free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the campground.
Centennial Campground operates seasonally from May 16 through September 15. Reservations are required and can be made through the Municipality's ActiveNet reservation system — the campground does not accept first-come, first-served campers. Nightly rates are $30 for sites without electricity and $40 for sites with hookups, with a maximum cumulative stay of 14 days per season. Bear-proof food storage is required per campground rules.
The campground's location near the Glenn Highway places it within easy reach of downtown Anchorage, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, Ship Creek salmon fishing, and Chugach State Park trailheads — making it an ideal base camp for both urban exploration and wilderness adventures just outside the city.
