Description

Seavey's IdidaRide Sled Dog Tours offers one of the most authentic Alaska dog mushing experiences available to the visiting public — a rare look into the world of competitive sled dog racing through the eyes of the Seavey family, one of the most accomplished dynasties in Iditarod history. Operating from their working kennel at 12820 Old Exit Glacier Road outside Seward, the Seaveys have welcomed guests to their homestead since 1993 for educational tours, dog sled rides, and hands-on encounters with the Alaskan huskies that have carried them across the Iditarod Trail multiple times.

The kennel tour experience begins with an introduction to the dogs themselves — guests meet and interact with the huskies up close, learning about the breeding, nutrition, training, and care that goes into building and maintaining a competitive racing team. Guides share stories from the Iditarod Trail, explain the mechanics of sled dog racing, and talk frankly about both the demands and the joy of the sport. The Seavey family has won the Iditarod multiple times, and that championship pedigree is evident in the quality of the dogs and the depth of knowledge the guides bring to every tour.

Beyond the kennel tour, guests can take a dog sled ride — a surprisingly addictive experience that involves standing on a traditional sled while a team of eager huskies pulls you through the forested terrain around the homestead. Summer dog sled rides are run on wheeled rigs when snow isn't available, keeping the experience year-round. The property is located just outside Seward on the road to Exit Glacier, making it easy to combine with a visit to Kenai Fjords National Park.

Tours run daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. Reservations are recommended, especially during peak summer months. Book online at ididaride.com or call for group and custom options.
