Anchorage's premier summer music experience
The Summer Concert Series turns downtown Anchorage's Town Square Park into an outdoor music venue with free weekly concerts throughout the summer months. The series brings world-class entertainment to Alaska's largest city in a setting that has the Chugach as its backdrop and the longest evenings of the year as its lighting design.
Schedule pattern and lineup
Concerts run on a regular weekly cadence from mid-June through late August, with most shows starting in the early evening (around 5:30 PM) and wrapping before the latest summer light fades. Each week features a different musical genre — rock, pop, jazz, folk, and the occasional classical or world-music night — showcasing both emerging Alaska musicians and touring acts you might otherwise have to travel south to see. Check the Anchorage Downtown Partnership calendar for the current week's lineup before you head out.
Location and parking
Town Square Park sits at the heart of downtown Anchorage at 546 W 5th Avenue, between F and G Streets. Street parking is metered weekdays until 6 PM and free after that and on Sundays, so the typical evening concert window lines up with free parking. The City of Anchorage parking garages within two blocks are usually inexpensive in the evening as well. If you are walking from the Coastal Trail, the park is roughly ten minutes from the Westchester Lagoon trailhead.
Family-friendly and picnic-style
This is one of the most relaxed downtown events on the Anchorage summer calendar — kids run on the lawn while parents stake out a picnic spot near the stage. Lawn seating fills in early on a sunny week, so it is worth arriving 30 to 45 minutes ahead if you want a particular spot. Bring a blanket or low chair, sunscreen, and a layer for when the breeze picks up off Cook Inlet. Town Square food trucks and downtown restaurants are within a block if you would rather not pack a meal, but a homemade picnic keeps things easy with toddlers in the mix.
