Namaste North Yoga and Wellness

Downtown Anchorage yoga sanctuary offering traditional Hatha yoga, meditation, and 200-hour teacher training under expert guidance

Description

Namaste North Yoga & Wellness opened its doors in May 2012 in downtown Anchorage as a sanctuary born from transformation and spiritual awakening. After surviving a near-death car accident, founder Sandy Walters experienced a profound meditation practice in India that revealed her calling to bring authentic yoga and wellness to Alaska. What began as a personal journey has blossomed into Anchorage's premier destination for traditional yoga, meditation, and holistic healing.

Sandy Walters brings exceptional credentials to her teaching, including 500-hour yoga training certification, nearly 5,000 hours of teaching experience, and training under Himalayan yoga master Yogrishi Vishvektu, PhD. Her comprehensive background encompasses Hatha yoga, functional diagnostic nutrition, fascial release, Vedic counseling, and specialized yoga therapy for grief and trauma. This depth of knowledge creates an environment where students experience yoga as both physical practice and spiritual journey.

The studio's offerings reflect this holistic approach, featuring group yoga sessions, private instruction, corporate yoga programs, and transformative retreats in Alaska's wilderness. Their signature 200-hour Mandala Yoga Teacher Training program, approved by Yoga Alliance, provides immersive study in yoga history, philosophy, anatomy, meditation, and the art of teaching both in-person and online classes.

Nestled in downtown Anchorage at 400 L Street, next to Simon & Seaforts and across from Snow City Cafe, the studio creates an urban oasis where visitors can escape daily stresses and reconnect with their inner wisdom. The space emphasizes pranayama (breathwork) as a cornerstone practice, following traditional teachings that honor yoga's ancient roots while meeting modern practitioners' needs.

Whether you're a beginner seeking gentle introduction to yoga or an experienced practitioner deepening your practice, Namaste North offers both virtual and in-person sessions to accommodate Alaska's unique lifestyle. The studio's motto, "Lokha Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu" (May there be well-being to the world), permeates every class, creating a community dedicated to healing, growth, and spiritual development.
