Alaska's most storied road race celebrates more than 50 years on Anchorage streets in 2026. The Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon is a USATF-certified Boston Marathon qualifier held near the summer solstice — which means runners tackle a course through Anchorage's most scenic corridors under nearly 22 hours of continuous daylight.

The race begins at ConocoPhillips Soccer Stadium in Kincaid Park and routes through the city's coastal trail system before finishing at Delaney Park Strip in downtown Anchorage. The full marathon (26.2 miles) and half marathon are open to runners of all levels, and the shorter Solstice Classic offers a more accessible option. Teams can enter the Marathon Relay at $210, and younger runners compete free in the Kids Mile.

The event is organized by the Municipality of Anchorage Parks & Recreation in partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage and presented by ConocoPhillips. A two-day Race Expo on June 18–19 handles packet pickup and features vendor booths ahead of race day.

Kincaid Park sits along Cook Inlet and offers trailhead parking for runners arriving for the start. The park is a city landmark used year-round for skiing, mountain biking, and trail running — on marathon day it becomes a full race staging area with thousands of participants and spectators.

Few road races offer the combination of a Boston-qualifier certification, a course through genuinely wild Alaskan terrain, and the eerie brightness of a solstice morning.
