Description

Golden Donuts has been one of Anchorage's most consistent late-night institutions since 1992. The family-owned shop at 2213 Tudor Road runs 24 hours most days — including through the night — making it the default destination when the craving hits at 2 AM and everything else is closed.

The operation is traditional: hand-crafted old-fashioned donuts, not artisan creations with elaborate toppings. The specialty list covers plain and chocolate old-fashioned, glazed, jelly-filled, French crullers, bear claws, and the frequently praised apple fritter. The maple triangle, maple bacon donut, and Fruity Pebble specialty draw their own regulars. A viewing window lets customers watch the bakers work, which is particularly satisfying during off-peak hours when the shop is relatively quiet.

Fancy donuts expand the selection: chocolate and maple eclairs, butterflies, cherry rosettes, cinnamon rolls (plain and Persian), cream cheese Danish, and donut holes by the dozen. Coffee is available for the overnight crowd. Drive-thru service handles the commute rush efficiently, and catering is available for meetings and events.

The shop is open 24 hours Monday and Wednesday through Saturday. Tuesdays are closed. Sunday hours may differ from the 24-hour weekday schedule — calling ahead on Sundays is advisable. With a military discount offered and over 300 combined reviews across platforms, the shop has built three decades of loyalty on consistency rather than novelty.

For classic Alaskan donut shop fare — made fresh, available at any hour, and without pretense — Golden Donuts holds a place in Anchorage that newer bakeries with more elaborate menus have not displaced. Thirty-plus years at the same address on Tudor Road is its own argument.
