Description
Alaska's Most Scenic Cycling Experience
The Coastal Classic Bike Tour takes cyclists along one of Alaska's most breathtaking routes, following Turnagain Arm from Anchorage towards the Kenai Peninsula. This well-organized cycling event offers multiple distance options to accommodate riders of all skill levels and fitness abilities.
Route options include a 25-mile family-friendly ride that stays within the Anchorage bowl, a challenging 50-mile route to Girdwood, and an epic 75-mile journey to Portage Glacier. Each route showcases stunning mountain vistas, wildlife viewing opportunities, and the dramatic tidal bore phenomenon of Turnagain Arm.
Rest stations every 10-15 miles provide hydration, nutrition, and mechanical support from professional bicycle technicians. Medical support follows the routes ensuring rider safety throughout the event, while volunteers offer encouragement and assistance at key locations.
Participants often spot beluga whales, Dall sheep, and eagles while cycling through diverse Alaska landscapes. The ride passes through tunnels carved into mountainsides, crosses historic bridges, and offers photo opportunities at designated scenic overlooks.
Post-ride celebrations at the finish line feature local food vendors, live music, and awards ceremonies recognizing age group winners and participation milestones. Family activities keep non-cycling family members entertained while riders complete their chosen routes.
Bike rentals are available from local shops with event partnerships, including helmets and basic repair kits. Shuttle service returns riders to Anchorage from longer route endpoints, eliminating transportation concerns.
