Description

Alaska Wilderness SUP brings stand-up paddleboarding to some of Anchorage's most scenic waterways, with a specialty in guided experiences on Eklutna Lake — a strikingly turquoise glacier-fed lake roughly 30 minutes from downtown Anchorage at the foot of the Chugach Mountains. Founded in 2016 and co-owned by physical therapists Amber Walker and Jennah Jones, the company approaches paddleboarding through both an adventure and a wellness lens, holding certifications from the Professional Stand Up Paddle Industry Association (PSUPA) and NOLS wilderness first aid training.

The flagship offering is the half-day Eklutna Lake guided tour, which takes paddlers of all skill levels onto the glacial lake with views of Eklutna Glacier and surrounding peaks. Equipment and instruction are provided, and the lake's remote, road-accessible location means minimal motorized boat traffic and a genuinely quiet backcountry feel. First-time paddlers are welcome; no prior experience is required. The lake's glacial blue-green color and mountain backdrop make for some of the most photogenic paddling in Southcentral Alaska.

Beyond the flagship lake tour, Alaska Wilderness SUP runs a diverse range of programs. SUP lessons for groups and individuals are offered at various Anchorage lakes, covering beginner through intermediate technique with a focus on proper form and water confidence. The seasonal fitness program brings SUP yoga and core fitness classes to the water — a low-impact workout with spectacular scenery and an increasingly popular option for Anchorage's outdoor fitness community. For experienced paddlers, custom backcountry day trips and overnight expeditions can be arranged, and the company hosts a Summer Racing Series at Kincaid Park and other Anchorage locations. Corporate retreats, bachelorette parties, and special group events round out the programming.

All tours and lessons are led by certified instructors. Current 2026 pricing and scheduling are posted on Instagram (@alaskawildernesssup), which also serves as the primary booking channel. Alaska Wilderness SUP has a strong TripAdvisor presence with confirmed reviews. This operator is distinct from general SUP rental businesses in Anchorage — the focus here is guided, instructed experience at Eklutna Lake specifically, with a PT-informed approach to paddleboard fitness and technique.
