Description
Rabbit Creek Shooting Park is Anchorage's primary public outdoor shooting facility, operated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Hunter Information and Training (HIT) Program. Located on the Seward Highway in South Anchorage, the park provides a safe, well-maintained, and affordable venue for both recreational shooters and hunters looking to sharpen their skills before heading into the field.
The facility is genuinely multi-discipline. Rifle shooters have access to ranges with distances up to 100 yards — ideal for sight-in sessions and target practice. A dedicated handgun range serves pistol shooters of all levels, while a .22 rimfire range is a favorite for newer shooters and families introducing young hunters to the sport. Archery enthusiasts have their own dedicated range, and a non-toxic shotgun clay target range rounds out the offering, giving wing shooters a place to practice their swing before the bird seasons open.
Rabbit Creek Shooting Park welcomes Alaska residents and out-of-state visitors alike. The park is particularly busy in the weeks before hunting season opens, when hunters come to confirm zero on rifles and familiarize themselves with new firearms. A modest day-use fee applies; contact the park directly for current rates and any seasonal scheduling changes, as the facility is closed all of December and select holidays.
The park is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM to 5:45 PM. Closed Monday and Tuesday. For visitors, this is a rare opportunity to experience world-class shooting in a scenic South Anchorage setting — surrounded by Alaska wilderness, with the Chugach Range as a backdrop. Bring your own ammunition and eye and ear protection; arrive prepared and follow all posted range safety rules.
