Description
Alaska Alpine Adventures has been guiding wilderness expeditions across Alaska's most remote national parks since 1998 — earning recognition from National Geographic Adventure as one of the "Best Adventure Travel Companies on Earth" and landing three trips on National Geographic Traveler's "50 Tours of a Lifetime" list. Based in Anchorage, the company runs fully guided, all-inclusive small-group expeditions to destinations most visitors never reach: Lake Clark, Katmai, Gates of the Arctic, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Denali, and Wrangell-St. Elias.
Every expedition is built around intimacy and depth. Groups cap at eight guests, each trip has two lead guides, and bush flights are included in the price — meaning true backcountry access is built in, not sold separately. Trips range from 4-day basecamp hikes (from ~$3,995) to 12-day backpacking expeditions, with all guiding, camping gear, and field meals included in every package.
What Sets Alaska Alpine Adventures Apart
The company's specialty is getting guests into Alaska's wilderness well beyond the road system. Lake Clark National Park — one of the least-visited in the country — is a signature destination, with trip formats including the Turquoise Glacier High Route, the Twin Lakes Paddle, and several multi-day backcountry traverses. Katmai expeditions blend bear-viewing with genuine backcountry hiking, while Gates of the Arctic and ANWR trips reach some of the most remote land in North America. Packrafting, kayaking, and multisport options round out the portfolio for guests who want more than just boots-on-ground travel.
Awards & Sustainability
Alaska Alpine Adventures holds Adventure Green Alaska's Gold Level certification for sustainability and received the Superintendent's Partnership Award from Lake Clark National Park for outstanding resource protection. Founder Dan Oberlatz is an elected member of The Explorers Club.
