Description

Want to experience Alaska's dramatic mountain scenery year-round? Rendezvous Peak Trail in Arctic Valley offers one of Anchorage's most versatile hiking experiences, serving as both a challenging summer hike and premier winter snowshoeing destination. This 4.8-mile round-trip trail climbs 1,600 feet through the historic Arctic Valley Ski Area to stunning alpine vistas.

Year-Round Trail Access & Terrain

The trail begins at the Arctic Valley Ski Area base lodge and follows ski runs and maintenance roads through varied terrain. During summer months, you'll traverse wildflower meadows and rocky outcrops while enjoying increasingly spectacular views. Winter transforms the route into a snowshoer's paradise, with well-packed trails and opportunities to see the aurora borealis from the summit.

Unique Features & Mountain Views

What makes Rendezvous Peak unique is its dual-season accessibility and relatively gentle grade. Unlike many Chugach peaks, this trail provides excellent mountain views without extreme technical difficulty. The summit offers panoramic vistas spanning the Chugach Range, Cook Inlet, and the Alaska Range on clear days, making it a favorite for photographers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Hiking Time & Seasonal Considerations

Plan for 3 to 4 hours for the summer hike, or 4 to 5 hours for winter snowshoeing. The well-marked trail includes several rest areas and scenic viewpoints. Summer hikers should watch for changing weather conditions, while winter visitors need appropriate snow gear and should check avalanche conditions before departing.

Arctic Valley Access & Parking Information

Access Arctic Valley via Arctic Valley Road from the Glenn Highway, approximately 7 miles from downtown Anchorage. Parking is available at the ski area base lodge year-round. A $5 day-use fee applies during peak seasons. The trail operates year-round, with summer hiking from June through September and winter snowshoeing from December through March.
