Alaska's Most Uniquely Fun Community Celebration

Bear Paw Festival transforms Eagle River into Alaska's most entertaining hometown celebration, combining classic festival elements with hilariously unique Alaska-themed competitions. This five-day free festival showcases the community spirit and creative humor that makes the Chugiak-Eagle River area one of Anchorage's most beloved neighborhoods.

    Signature Events and Contests

The festival's crown jewel is the famous Slippery Salmon Olympics, where teams of two race against the clock while navigating obstacle courses with a real salmon—a competition that could only exist in Alaska. The Running of the Bears brings 300 yards of costumed chaos as participants sprint alongside animal mascots, while Human Foosball creates life-sized recreation room mayhem. Additional highlights include the classic car show, Teddy Bear Picnic, and the I-Did-A-Duck Race rubber duck regatta.

    Music, Food, and Family Fun

The Bear Paw LIVE Music Festival brings free concerts to the park throughout the event, featuring local bands and artists from across Alaska with a special focus on Chugiak-Eagle River talent. Carnival rides provide thrills for all ages, while food vendors and local businesses create a vendor court atmosphere perfect for browsing and sampling local treats. The community parade showcases local organizations, businesses, and the area's unique personality.

Why Bear Paw Defines Eagle River Spirit

Organized by the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, Bear Paw Festival perfectly captures the blend of small-town Alaska charm and good-natured competitiveness that defines this corner of the Anchorage area. It's a celebration where visitors can experience authentic Alaska community culture alongside some of the most entertainingly bizarre contests you'll find anywhere.
