Description

The Anchorage Curling Club is Alaska's hub for one of the world's most social sports. Tucked into the Government Hill neighborhood at 711 E Loop Road, this non-profit club operates a two-sheet curling facility with ice from October through early April, welcoming participants of every experience level — from first-timers to competitive athletes vying for state and regional titles.

For visitors curious about curling, the club's signature Learn to Curl program is the perfect entry point. No prior experience or equipment is required. Each two-hour class opens with roughly 20 minutes of warm-room instruction covering curling history, rules, basic delivery technique, sweeping, and the etiquette that makes the sport famous for sportsmanship and camaraderie. Participants then take to the ice for hands-on practice: stone throws, sweeping, and a condensed game that puts the classroom lessons to work. All gear is provided — brooms, stones, sliders, grippers, and stabilizers. Participants need only bring clean soft-soled athletic shoes and dress in warm, flexible layers, since the rink stays between 24°F and 38°F.

Each Learn to Curl session is limited to 24 participants, and advance registration through the club website is strongly recommended to guarantee a spot; walk-ins are welcome when space allows. Minimum age is 16.

Members who catch the curling bug can join weekly leagues that run throughout the October–April season. Multiple leagues accommodate different skill levels, and the club hosts bonspiels — curling tournaments — at various points in the season, providing competitive play against other Alaskan and visiting clubs. Top competitors advance through Alaska Curling Association and US Curling Association playdowns toward regional and national events.

The Anchorage Curling Club holds affiliations with both the US Curling Association and the Alaska Curling Association, keeping its members connected to the national curling community. Whether you are looking for a memorable afternoon activity during an Anchorage winter visit or searching for your next year-round competitive sport, the curling club delivers strategy, skill, and genuine Alaska hospitality on the ice.
