Description
The Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center is the primary public recreation and community hub for Eagle River and Chugiak, operated by the Municipality of Anchorage's Eagle River/Chugiak Parks and Recreation Service Area. Built in 1983 and named for a beloved local civic leader, the center is a year-round gathering place for families, athletes, and community groups. The facility's centerpiece is an Olympic-size ice rink that hosts public skating sessions, figure skating programs, youth and adult hockey leagues, and learn-to-skate classes throughout the year. A large indoor turf field and covered walking track make it a destination for fitness regardless of Alaska's notoriously variable weather. Multiple meeting and community rooms accommodate everything from birthday parties to large civic events and private rentals. The center hosts a wide range of programming for toddlers through seniors, making it the beating heart of community life in the Eagle River and Chugiak area. Located on Harry McDonald Road just off the Old Glenn Highway, it's easy to find and well worth a visit for anyone spending time in the area.
