Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park

Birchwood Recreation & Shooting Park is Southcentral Alaska's premier shooting facility, established in 1954 on 72 acres of pristine grounds in Chugiak. Located adjacent to Birchwood Airport and 2.5 miles from the Glenn Highway (North Birchwood exit), BRSP offers comprehensive shooting sports facilities for hunters, competitors, and recreational shooters of all skill levels.

Facilities & Ranges
The park features eight fully-equipped rifle and pistol ranges with over 100 covered firing points, plus 12 dedicated shotgun ranges offering diverse disciplines. Shotgun shooters can enjoy trap, skeet, 5-stand, sporting clays, and international bunker trap (FITASC), all with electric lights for night shooting. The facility is operated by a paid professional staff and elected board of directors as a 501(c)7 non-profit organization.

Membership & Access
BRSP operates as a members-only facility. Annual memberships are $450 paid in full or $39/month with automatic billing. Family memberships include spouse, partner, and dependent children aged 17 and under (or 24 if attending college). Each membership includes four guest passes; additional passes are available for $25 each. Non-members may participate in registered competitions organized by external shooting associations or attend classes with an additional fee. Tours can be arranged by contacting the facility.

Events & Leagues
BRSP hosts nearly weekly registered competitions and leagues throughout the year, affiliated with the Alaska Sporting Clays Association, Alaska State Amateur Trapshooting Association, and Alaska Skeet Shooting Association. The park offers rifle leagues, shotgun leagues, youth leagues, and group instruction programs to improve shooting skills at all levels.

Hours & Seasonal Operations
Regular hours are 7am–10pm daily. Winter hours (approximately November–March) are reduced to Monday–Friday 1pm–9pm and Saturday–Sunday 8am–10pm. Contact the facility for specific seasonal dates and special event schedules.
