Alaska Veterans Museum

The Alaska Veterans Museum preserves and shares the military history of Alaska through a carefully curated collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, and personal testimonies. Operated entirely by volunteers and run as a nonprofit, it offers visitors a free glimpse into Alaska's deep and often overlooked contributions to American military history — from the last shots of the Civil War through both World Wars, the Cold War, and modern conflicts.

The museum's exhibit rooms each focus on a distinct chapter: World War II's Pacific Theater and Alaska's strategic importance as a staging ground, the Cold War's footprint across the state, and thematic galleries covering Alaska Native contributions to the military, the Tuskegee Airmen, and the role of women in the armed forces. Located in Suite 2A of the historic building at 411 W 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage, the museum shares a block with the city's vibrant 4th Avenue district. Parking is available nearby, and elevator access makes the second-floor suite fully accessible. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM, and is closed Sunday through Tuesday. Admission is free, though donations are gratefully accepted and support the all-volunteer organization.
