Description
Few RV parks in the country can claim a zip code this close to a city's downtown — and Ship Creek RV Park makes the most of its unlikely urban perch. Situated at the base of the Chugach foothills along the banks of Ship Creek, this well-maintained park puts you within a half-mile walk of downtown Anchorage's restaurants, shops, the Ulu Factory, and the Alaska Railroad Depot. For cruise passengers disembarking and exploring Alaska independently, or road-trippers who want city amenities without sacrificing the camping experience, this is hard to beat.
The park offers 153 sites with full hookups — water, sewer, and 30-amp electric — plus pull-through options that accommodate a wide range of rigs. Back-in sites run $79 per night, pull-throughs $89; dry/tent sites are available at $59. Amenities go beyond the basics: restrooms and showers, coin laundry, Wi-Fi, a dump station, a gift shop, bike rentals for tooling along the nearby Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, and a tour desk for booking excursions. Self-check-in is available for late arrivals outside the 10am–5pm office window.
The setting comes with a defining bonus: Ship Creek itself is one of the only urban salmon fisheries in the United States. King salmon begin running in late May, with Silver salmon peaking in late July and August — meaning guests can walk from their site to the creek and cast a line in the heart of Anchorage. Open May 1 through September 30, Ship Creek RV Park is a reliable base camp for exploring southcentral Alaska, with the city's best dining and transportation connections just a short walk away.
