Description
The Anchorage Symphony Orchestra has been the cornerstone of classical music in Alaska for 80 seasons, performing a full concert calendar at the Atwood Concert Hall inside the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Founded in the 1940s, the ASO today presents nine or more major programs per season spanning classical masterworks, pops galas, film score concerts, opera collaborations, and family-friendly performances — making live orchestral music accessible to audiences well beyond the core classical listener.
The 2025–2026 season marks the orchestra's 80th anniversary and runs September through April. Highlights include the annual Champagne Pops Gala, a Harry Potter film-with-live-orchestra concert, a full production of Verdi's Aida in collaboration with Anchorage Opera, and a season finale featuring Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The ASO also runs free neighborhood outreach concerts throughout the municipality, bringing live orchestral music to communities across Anchorage.
Performing at Atwood Concert Hall
All major ASO concerts take place at Atwood Concert Hall — the premier performance space in Anchorage, with excellent acoustics and clear sightlines from every seat. The hall is part of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Anchorage, walkable from most downtown hotels and the transit hub. The CenterTix box office opens 90 minutes before each performance; tickets are also available online.
